A joint team from the Universities of Bern and Oxford and the Albanian Academy of Sciences started investigating the Neolithic site of Lin 3, on the western shore of Lake Ohrid, on June 4, 2025. The site is located near the prominent Lin peninsula in the middle of fields. The section that will be investigated in 2023-2025 is one of the oldest parts of the multi-phase site to date. The dendrochronological dating of numerous timbers dates at least three phases to the period 5900-5700 BCE. Lin 3 is the oldest lakeside settlement in Europe. The preservation conditions are excellent.
