EU Delegation to Albania Reports on EXPLO Discoveries at Lin

We are pleased to share that the Delegation of the European Union to Albania has featured our research at the prehistoric lakeside settlement of Lin in a recent news article published on their official website.

The piece highlights the ongoing work of the EXPLO project, which investigates the origins and dynamics of early farming in the southern Balkans. The site at Lin, located on the shores of Lake Ohrid, has emerged as one of Europe’s oldest known lake-dwelling settlements, dating from ca. 6200 to 4000 BCE. Excavations led by the University of Bern in collaboration with the Albanian Institute of Archaeology have revealed remarkably well-preserved wooden structures and artefacts, offering new insights into early Neolithic lifeways.

The EU Delegation’s article underscores the importance of EU research funding for interdisciplinary archaeological research and documents the collaborative efforts of institutions across Switzerland, Albania, the UK, and Greece. It also includes statements from project leaders Prof. Albert Hafner and Adrian Anastasi, who emphasise the scientific and heritage significance of the site.
