Swiss Ambassador Ruth Huber visits the archaeological excavations at Lin, Lake Ohrid, Albania

On 17.7.2023, Swiss Ambassador Ruth Huber, accompanied by a team of the Embassy, visited the excavations of the University of Bern and the Academy of Albanology in the Neolithic site of Lin at Lake Ohrid. The Ambassador wanted to be informed personally and on the spot about the research of Switzerland in Albania and the Albanian-Swiss cooperation. Representatives of the Municipality of Pogradec were informed about the progress of the work and expressed their interest. Numerous media representatives were present at the event and reported in detail on the Ambassador’s visit and the latest results of the excavations. Radiocarbon dating on timbers from Lin determined shortly before the visit point to the period 5900/5800 BC. The information that Lin is the oldest lakeside settlement in Europe led to a media buzz.
