From June 5 to August 5, 2023, excavations were conducted at the Neolithic lakeshore settlement of Lin 3 on the western shore of Lake Ohrid. The project was carried out by the Institute of Archaeological Sciences at the University of Bern and the Academy of Sciences of Albania. Participants included staff from the Academy of Sciences in Tirana, researchers and students from the Universities of Bern, Geneva, and Oxford, as well as numerous international volunteers. In total, more than 40 individuals were involved in the excavations both on land and underwater. The Lin 3 site dates to between 6000 and 4000 BCE, making it the oldest lakeshore settlement in Europe. For the first time, an extensive palisade system from around 4500 BCE has been uncovered.
